Meet Our Staff:
Deandra has been on the Counseling Services team since 2006. She has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Maine (1990) and a Masters of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (2005) with a specialization in Addiction from the University of Southern Maine. She brings with her a variety of professional experience to include being a veteran of the United States Army, having worked with children and families, people with physical and emotional disabilities, as well as people who are homeless. Her clinical internship was conducted in 2004 at a local detoxification agency and her practicum in 2003 at a local correctional facility. In her spare time Deandra enjoys volunteering, going to baseball games, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Joanne provides Co-Occurring treatment in mental health and substance abuse at Catholic Charities Counseling Services. She graduated from Bangor Theological Seminary with a Masters in Divinity and from Boston College with a Masters in Social Work (LCSW) and did further work to be fully licensed as drug and alcohol counselor (LADC). IShe wanted to work at Catholic Charities so that she could integrate both mental health and spirituality in her work when appropriate. She has enjoyed working with many clients of varied ages and have great respect for persons willing to look at themselves, formulate goals and work to achieve these changes. She has additional training in trauma work and finds that this work is very rewarding for clients who are ready and want to do this work. She is a musician and has a degree in music and enjoys playing the piano and developing her artistic skills as a painter. She always has a small garden in the summer and enjoys the beautiful sites and new trails to investigate. Reading and prayer are also part of her life.
Paul has been working with Counseling Services team for --- years but has over 18 years experience as a licensed clinical social worker. He has provided general psychotherapy and addictions treatment in inpatient, residential, correctional and outpatient settings. His current practice focus is on anger management, addictions and general psychotherapy adults. He has taught college addictions courses, as well as seminars and workshops on topics including stress management, communications in the workplace, anger management and boundary issues in the treatment setting.
Betsy has been in the clinical social work field for six years. After a 30 year career in marketing research and getting information from people to help organizations promote their products and services to them, Betsy wanted to get information from people so they can help themselves. She completed her Master’s degree in Social Work at The University of New England in 2006 and is a licensed clinical social worker as well as a certified alcohol and drug counselor. She works with adults of all ages and has specialized experience with older adults and those with medical and end-of-life issues. She enjoys the outdoors and creative crafts, time with family and friends, and I sings in a community chorus.
Abbie has been providing direct mental health and addictions services for five years. Her past experience includes: mobile crisis clinician for Cumberland County Crisis Response (774-HELP), and Clinical Supervisor for Cumberland County Crisis Response. She has experience as a Volunteer for Family Crisis Services, providing service to victims and survivors of domestic abuse. She completed her Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Southern Maine in 2006 and is licensed as a Clinical Professional Counselor. Her special interest is addiction and trauma recovery, and crisis counseling. She enjoys creative writing, music, spirituality, and being on the ocean in the summer in Maine.
Heather is currently working as a clinical counselor at Catholic Charities Counseling Services. She received her master’s degree in Social Work in 2008 and is currently working towards her LCSW. She also obtained her CADC. She is interested in the field of substance abuse/mental health because it is challenging, rewarding seeing clients grow, and it allows her the opportunity to connect with individuals who are often stigmatized and devalued in our society today. As a clinician, she enjoys working with adults who are dually diagnosed as it is very interesting to herto see how substance abuse and mental health affect each other in treatment. Her hobbies include but are not limited to going to the beach, scrapbooking, swimming, and traveling.
