Home Supplies & Food Bank

Serving Aroostook County Residents in Need of
Food and Home Supplies

Home Supplies & Food Bank Program
Catholic Charities Maine Home Supplies is a project that offers home supplies, furniture, appliances and some building materials at a fraction of their cost to residents of Aroostook County. All proceeds go towards helping us run our food bank which serves 24 food pantries. Through the generosity of individuals and businesses throughout Maine we are able to assist some of our most needy citizens of Aroostook County through our food bank.

Client Testimonial
"You people provide such a wonderful service. My sister passed away and we did not know what to do with all her stuff. Her children lived out of State and it was such a dilemma and we called you guys and you came and picked up everything. It was wonderful to not have to figure out what to do with all that stuff."

Food Bank Distribution
This project of Catholic Charities Maine is a food distribution center that supplies 24 local food pantries from Ludlow to Fort Kent.
Every community in Aroostook County is serviced by one of our affiliated food pantries. Any person needing food assistance can contact our office in Caribou for information on a food pantry in their community.

The Thrift Store
Our Home Supplies thrift store offers a wide variety of household items, furniture and appliances. All items are donated by homeowners and businesses throughout the State and every dollar spent in our store helps us run our food bank. You can contact our Home Supplies Thrift Store at (207) 493-3243.

Hours of Operation
Tuesday through Saturday
9:00am to 4:00pm

How does the program work?
Home Supplies stockpiles building materials, furniture, appliances, and other household items that have been donated by contractors, businesses, manufacturers, churches, and individuals. The materials are a combination of new, used, and surplus items.

The following are examples of items we usually have:

  • Windows
  • Interior doors
  • Appliances
  • Paint
  • Furniture
  • Household items (dishes, pots, pans, etc)

We do charge for items in our Thrift Store to off-set our costs related to our operation of our Homes Supplies and Food Bank program. We rely on the support of our customers, homeowners, businesses and volunteers to help us provide this service.

How You Can Help
In 2008, we served 21,460 people through the 24 food pantries that we served from our warehouse in Caribou. We had 4,492 volunteer hours and 7 truck loads of food trucked to Aroostook County by local trucking companies at a cost savings of over $70,555 to our program. We purchased food at Good Shepherd Food Bank with very limited dollars and all other food was donated by businesses individuals and organizations.

Food and monetary donations are accepted and appreciated at any time! We can purchase 5 boxes of cereal at Good Shepherd Food Bank for one dollar which allows us to stretch our limited dollars as far as possible.

Also keep a look out for our Feed the County Food Drive! They happen once a month in a different town in Aroostook County. It is a great way to help out a neighbor in need.

We also accept donations of used furniture, appliances, household items and building materials. To arrange a pick up of these items you may call our Caribou Office.

We are constantly in need volunteers to assist us in sorting food, unloading trucks & processing donated household items.
