Dental Services In Maine

____________

Tooth decay disease is one of the few preventable health problems today, yet dental decay is the most common chronic childhood disease across the country and Maine is no exception. A lack of childhood preventative care and lifelong dental hygiene has dramatically affected the state of Maine. During the period of 1995-1997 Maine was among the top 5 states with adults over the age of 65 who had lost all of their natural teeth. The statistics have improved slightly since then but the numbers are still staggering.

Dental health services for low-income families are desperately needed in Maine. Catholic Charities Maine is responding to this need by offering services through its dental centers in Bath and looking for opportunities to expand this service into other areas of the state. ____
