SEARCH is a non-denominational program in Androscoggin County that has promoted independent living for elderly and disabled people in Maine for 34 years. Our mission is to enable the frail, vulnerable, elderly and those with disabilities to remain independent and increasingly connected to a caring community. Services we offer: Experienced community volunteers who are recruited, trained, and supervised by SEARCH staff, provide the services. All services are delivered at no cost and are designed to enhance the quality of life for those we serve. Services include home visitation, telephone reassurance, information and referral, and a range of special services such as assistance with transportation, home and yard chores, and errands. SEARCH is supported by: Our wonderful supporters are the United Way of Androscoggin County, City of Lewiston, the Ladd Foundation, Auburn/Lewiston Rotary, Liberty Mutual, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland and donations from grants and concerned businesses and individuals. Volunteer opportunities :Help make a difference in your community! We have a dozen elderly clients who are waiting for volunteers to assist them with errands or to become a friendly companion to them. If you have 2-3 hours a week to give we would love to talk to you about becoming a volunteer with us and be matched with an elderly person from your community! Please call us at the number below and we'll be glad to discuss this opportunity with you.
