Catholic Charities Maine St. Francis Recovery Center is dedicated to helping people heal their lives from chemical dependency by providing: compassion, respect and dignified treatment; a safe structured living environment; education about chemical dependency; opportunities to develop a healthy lifestyle; tools to maintain on-going abstinence; and a holistic approach to recovery. We believe that chemical dependency is primarily a disease, rather than a manifestation of moral consequence, character weakness, or psychological dysfunction.
This residential program serves chemically dependent men over 18 years of age by providing a comfortable setting for those needing safe housing and support while making the adjustment to living a sober life. Each program has the capacity for 16 residents. A screening process is required before admission for treatment.
The Extended Shelter is for men in the early stages of recovery. This program provides a structured therapeutic environment to address substance abuse issues. Most residents have recently completed a detoxification program or can provide documentation they are not in need of such services. To be admitted a resident must have a minimum of one week sobriety. The primary objective is to stabilize the individual in order to provide continuity of treatment. Some residents are awaiting admission to further treatment facilities while others are in the process of planning for continued sobriety. Length of stay in this program is up to 45 days.
The Halfway House stay is 3 to 6 months. This program provides a safe, sober environment for men who have found it difficult to stay clean on their own. Most residents have a month of sobriety prior to admission. Treatment is individualized and designed to help residents develop sober supports and skills for coping with the stressors of daily life. The goal of our residents is to build a solid foundation in recovery so they can enjoy a sober lifestyle and become productive members of any community.
