Parent Assistance Fund at St. Louis Child Development Center is Awarded $10,000 GrantParent Assistance Fund at St. Louis Child Development Center is Awarded $10,000 Grant

Biddeford, ME – On behalf of the TD Charitable Foundation, Larry Wold, Maine market president for TD Bank, presented a $10,000 check today to support the Parent Assistance Fund at the St. Louis Child Development Center in Biddeford. Director Todd Winship accepted the check on behalf of the Center, a program of Catholic Charities Maine.

The $10,000 grant will help to ensure children don’t suffer the consequences of a parent’s struggle to find work or continue their education. A program of Catholic Charities, St. Louis provides quality child care services to the neediest children in the York community regardless of a parent or guardian’s income. Unfortunately, many of these parents have found themselves out of work; or are seeking and awaiting a child care voucher from the state while trying to work or go to school, thus jeopardizing the care of their child(ren).

“We recognize that children from these families in particular need our quality care in order to be developmentally, emotionally, socially and educationally up to par with their peers,” says the center’s director Todd Winship. “When a parent loses their job there is a major disruption to child care and to a parent’s financial stability and we just didn’t want to see a child suffer the consequences,” Winship adds.

“This grant from TD Charitable Foundation will allow us to continue to serve this vulnerable population in keeping with our mission,” notes Catholic Charities CEO Stephen Letourneau. The monies will bridge the gap and pay for child care so a parent can accept a job, look for another job or continue their education. This limited-time financial support will help keep a child in child care until a voucher is awarded to the parent or until the parent’s financial circumstances improve.

“We are committed to building strong communities and recognize the impact children have on our future,” said Larry Wold, Market President for TD Bank. “We were impressed by the Center’s dedication to not only care for, but to engage children with early reading and math initiatives. “The key is to give children the very best tools to succeed and TD is proud to be in a position to help make that happen.”

Any parent awarded money from the TD Charitable Foundation Parent Assistance Fund is responsible for a portion of their child care fee based on using the DHHS Sliding Fee Scale. The Fund is available to parents who have children currently enrolled at St. Louis.

The St. Louis Child Development Center, accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), is committed to partnering with families to provide care and early intervention programs for young children in a learning environment that is developmentally appropriate, nurturing and safe. The Center strives to foster the development of socialization skills, independence, a positive self-image, and promote the joy of life-long learning.
