Services in Aroostook County

Catholic Charities provides many services in Aroostook County — from the Food Bank and Farm for ME, to our Independent Support Services program for seniors and Education Services for Blind and Visually Impaired Children — we are committed to bringing help and hope to the people of Aroostook County.

Hunger & Relief Services

Our Food Bank:

• Distributes approximately 1.2 million pounds of food (26 trailer loads) to 24 pantries annually
• Distributes 21,180 commodity food packs annually to seniors with Aroostook Agency on Aging
• Distributes USDA emergency food quarterly
• Work in partnership with Good Shepherd Food Bank to acquire needed food

Our Farm for ME program:

• Grows fresh vegetables on donated farmland to ensure healthy options for the 24 food pantries we supply. In addition we collect fresh produce from gleaning, grower donations, food drives and truckers for pantry distribution.

Threads of Hope

Our three Thrift Stores in Aroostook County sell donated furniture, household goods, clothing, books and more to help fund our Food Bank.   

Independent Support Services

Our Independent Support Services provides homemaker services for seniors and individuals with disabilities, including in-home assistance with housekeeping, groceries, meal preparation and laundry.

Education Services for Blind & Visually Impaired Children

Our Education Services for Blind & Visually Impaired Children provides services to children from birth through age 20 with visual impairments statewide. Services may include direct instruction and/or consultation to families and local schools around the implications of vision loss.

Child & Adult Care Food Program

Our Child & Adult Care Food Program offers support, meal reimbursement and education to child care providers on healthy eating and physical activity to ensure children are provided with nutritious meals and snacks while in their care.

Parish Social Ministry

Our Parish Social Ministry program strengthens parish communities by providing social ministry program trainings and resources based on the individual needs of a parish. 

How YOU can help!

Help us further our mission by:

• Donating to help pay for Food Bank overhead such as hauling costs and electricity to run coolers and large freezers.
• Volunteering at our Threads of Hope Thrift Stores, Food Bank or at the Farm
• Donating items or holding a donation drive for our thrift stores. Large quantities of clothing and shoes can be recycled and generate additional funds to purchase more food.
• Praying for the people served and the success of the Food Bank, thrift stores and farm.
