Full Description:
Refugees are now more vulnerable than ever before. Our work supports their stability. This position is to support a new initiative helping refugees set up online Citizenship and Immigration (ISCIS) accounts and to systematically request their immigration history files through FOIA requests.This is necessary so ILS can help prepare them for re-interviews regarding their refugee status. We need support to do this en masse for all vulnerable refugee clients
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting refugees to create online USCIS accounts
- Assisting refugees to make pro se FOIA requests for their immigration records
Impact of Opportunity:
Catholic Charities Maine is one of only three US Department of Justice Recognized Organizations in Maine. This new initiative will help prepare refugees for interviews that could potentially jeopardize their status.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Willing to learn. Excellent communication skills and client-centered approach to direct service. Must be dependable.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable with technology
- Patience supporting clients who have less experience with technology
- Maintain good records of client services
Training Offered:
Regular supervision and training from ILS volunteer attorneys and accredited representatives, volunteer orientation training
Time Commitment/Schedule
Regular commitment of at least 4 hours per week preferred. May be asked to meet clients in their home.
